Default Easy ways to change the look of kitchen cabinets.

If you are tired of looking at your kitchen cabinets and have been wondering just how to dress them up without it costing a lot of money, here are several ways you can do it.

Contact paper can be applied to the doors after they have been removed from the cabinets and very thoroughly cleaned and then air dried until completely dry.

Just apply the contact paper to the front of the door, turn the door over and using an Xacto knife, trim the edges of the contact paper, reapply the handles, put the door back up and you have a completely new look.

Another way to change them is with paint. Decide how much of the door you want to paint, mark off that section carefully, apply painters tape around the area, and paint. After the paint has dried, remove the tape.

You can also use a small trim to frame the painted area, and again, you have a decidedly different look to the kitchen cabinet doors.

Another way to change the look is with glass, be it clear, or frosted glass depending on your preferance. First measure the glass then mark the door one quarter inch smaller than the size of the piece of glass.

When this has been cut out, take a router and cut away about one quarter inch of outside area leaving a lip that will hold the glass in place. This can also be framed with a small piece of trim.

These are fast and easy ways to dress up your kitchen cabinets with hardly any expense at all.

Another way is to stencil what ever you want on the doors of the cabinets. My sister loves grapes in her kitchen. I got a stencil of a cluster of grapes and went and painted them on her doors. She loved it. There is so much you can do with stencils to change the look and you do not have to be an artist to do it.

You can do a sort of stencil with sponges as well. You can buy them in all different shapes. In example, if you like cows you can buy a cow sponge and decorate the cabinets with it.

You would be amazed at what just changing the hardware can do to give them a new look too.

We have some very old metal cabinets in our kitchen. I am tired of looking at them. There is proably five or more layers of paint on these cabinets, and that just makes it look even worse.

Any suggestions on what I can do to make them better. The last coat of paint that was placed on them was a high gloss paint. I dont know if it can be painted over or not.

We did think of putting contact paper over them to make them look better, but in certain areas the doors rub together, which means the paper would get torn easily.

Sure would appreciate any ideas on this one.
