Easy to do Thanksgiving decorations
With Halloween almost over, now is a good time to begin your preperations for Thanksgiving. By planning your decorations now, you will know just what items you can make and what items you want to make but may need to purchase a few materials.
Here are some great decorating ideas for November and Thanksgiving.
1. A fall garland is a great way to begin, as well as a great decorating idea for your homes entry way. To build a beautiful fall garland you simply space multicolored dried corn about 6 inches apart on a measured length of raffia. Tie each piece where the husk meets the kernels of the corn. To get the corn to lay horizontal just tie each tip of the corn to the next husk of corn with some floral wire. This is a beautiful garland for outdoor or even indoors.
2.A paper wreath is another great decoration for either outdoors or indoors. This wreath is made by cutting several 1 1/2 inch wide strips of kraft paper. Once these strips are cut out, wrap them around a foam wreath form to cover it. Use either staples, pins or glue to hold in place. The next step is to cut out several 5 by 10 inch rectangles of kraft paper. Then fold them like an accordion. Then cut out several leaves. Then using metallic papers cut more 2 1/2 by 4 1/2 rectangles. Fold these diagonally and at just a slight curve. Cut out single leaves and pinch them gently to create a curved shape. Pin, staple or glue all of the leaves you have cut out to create your wreath. Be sure to over lap the leaves and then embellish with a bow colored for the season.
3. Blow up a red balloon and knot off the end to form the turkey's body.
To make the head, blow up the yellow balloon about halfway so that there's an uninflated "nose" at one end, then knot off the balloon. Tie an uninflated red balloon to the nose to make the turkey's wattle. Attach the knotted-off ends of the body and the head together by wrapping a rubber band around them. Cut the feet out of one piece of cardboard and attach them to the bottom of the turkey with masking tape. Now your child can dress up her bird, painting on a face and feathers. After they make a few turkey balloons, kids can hold a race to see who can bop theirs across the room first. The winner gets the real turkey's wishbone.
I hope that you will find great uses for these easy to do decorations in your home this holiday season.
