Default Decorative Shelving

Shelves have many different uses around the home. Though there are some shelves that don't seem to blend in well with a room, or maybe they tend to blend in just a bit to much.

Mine have always seems never to blend in well with the rooms I had them in. This is when I decided to break out the paints, stencils and things and start changing their appearence.

by painting things like vines, flowers, books, canned goods and what not on the shelves, it made them blend in better with the rooms. I have one shelf in my kitchen that I painted white, then on the back of each of the shelves I painted canned goods, jars of pasta and what not to help tie the shelf into the room.

I was impressed at how well it all came out and it really looks great.

Keeping some paints, brushes and other things on hand, can really come in handy for projects like this one.

I like the idea of paitning shelves to help them fit in with the deco of the room. I personally like glass shelves. The don't stand out as much and can also help to reflect light around the room. They are also relatively sturdy.

The glass shelves are nice but when there are small children around that may throw things and possibly break one of the shelves resulting in a possible cut, I much prefer to use thicker plexiglass for these shelves.

Plus the thicker plexiglass is better when you might be placing something weighty on the shelf.
