Default Curtains and drapes

Drapes and curtains are an integral part of decorating, but they dont have to cost a fortune to be elegant looking.

I was looking, a few weeks back, for curtains for my office. I am an avid "blue" person but could not find the color blue I was looking for. Finally, giving up, I began to hunt for pillow cases, and there was the color blue I had been looking for. It came in the form of 2 twin sized flat sheets. Sound silly to you? No, it looks great. They can either be draped over the rod, or put on the rod like regular curtains and with contrasting tie-backs, they look just as good as any curtain you might buy. You can even put contrasting or white sheers in the center if you like.

As to drapes, buying drapes with a backing is your best bet, as they tend to keep out heat in the summer and cold drafts in the winter.

To make a room look larger, hang the curtains or drapes above the window and extend them several inches on each side of the window. It gives the illusion of more space in the room.

Also if you wnat to give the apperance of two windows and you only have one you can hang they same window treatments on a wall to make it appear to be another window

If you want a room to have a warm feeling, choose curtains with linen so that it could filter light and will give the impression of warmth and comfort.

That is a wonderful idea wendy and thank you for sharing it with us. I love sheers but sometimes they let in just a little too much light. I think that I will look into a different style of curtain especially for my bedroom.

Curtains and drapes cost an arm and a leg these days! You really have to shop around to find a good deal.

I've actually made some of the curtains for my house myself.

First of all I couldn't find anything that I really loved and second I didn't want to pay what they wanted for them.

Curtains are probably one of the easiest things to make, especially if you have a sewing machine. Just a few hems and be sure to leave a pocket for the rod. It's all pretty simple. Heck even pleats are simple on a machine.
