Default Christmas Decorations

I went shopping to pick up some christmas tree ornaments and was surprised to see just how much some of them can cost. It was unbelieveable!!

This holiday does seem to be all about the money anymore rather than what it is supposed to be.

Though I have an imagination and so with just a few plain ordinary ornaments we have created some really beautiful and quite unique ornaments for our tree this year.

I broke out the craft supplies and went to town creating some wonderful ornaments and it cost me next to nothing.

With just a bit of yarn, glitter, old pieces of jewerly, beads, glue, various pieces of colorful material, construction paper, colored pencils, markers and so on, I was able to make some ornaments that are colorful, and full of fun.

I was even able to get my daughter involved in the process and she also came up with some ornament ideas that are eye catching and fun.

We also collected things like pine cones to also make colorful to add to our tree this year.

Granted our tree isnt up yet, but when we do put it up we will have all the decorations that we need to make it a beautiful, bright and colorful tree.

Does anyone else make ornaments or any other decorations for the holidays? If you do please share your ideas with us here.... The more ideas we have the more fun we can all have decorationg our homes for the holidays!

Here are some simple Christmas decorating tips that will make less go a long way!

1. You can make homemade gingerbread men to hang on your tree or decorate a wreath with.

2. Decorate your chandeliers with evergreen garland. You can even make Christmas themed paper shades to cover the existing shades.

3. Instead of spending a fortune on a Christmas table cloth to fit a large table simply buy the material from the bolt. Make sure you get enough to allow the cloth to drape down and puddle.

4. Create your own decorations such as popcorn garland, salt dough ornaments and so on. The possibilites are endless.

I love to decorate for Christmas. The kids and I usually make some things ourselves every year to decorate with as well as the things that we have bought over the years. We find that the things we have made together over the years are what we enjoy the most.

Oh MY Word! I just drug out all of my Christmas decorations and what a mess I have now lol! I have boxes upon boxes of stuff! I really need to get rid of some of them. It's too much.

Anyhow, now that I have the mess out I guess I will have to get all of my decorating done this weekend. The kids have really been bugging me about doing it. I don't blame them, they are excited.

What I hate is having to move furniture and find other places to put some of it because I have to make room for the Christmas tree. Oh well, I guess I will just stuff all of that into my husbands shed lol.

I had bought some new stuff after the holidays last year when it all went on sale. I had forgotten that stuff. I am glad I bought it though because I got some really cute things for the lawn and to line my driveway with.

My house is going to be all lit up this year thats for sure! Glad the hubby pays the electric bill and not me lol!

Decorating for the holidays is something that I really need to get done quickly. I wanted to have it done already but of course that didnt happen.

This weekend that is exactly what I am going to be doing as well. We have storage tub upon storage tubs full of decorations, lights, garland, ornaments and so on.

Its going to take me a while to get through it all and get it all put into place.I am just wondering who I can sucker into untangling all of the lights this year,LOL.

You can put your lights away as carefully as possible so that they dont get all tangled and twisted, yet every time you go to get them out that is just what they are....tangled and twisted.

I even bought those plastic light holders that are supposed to prevent that from happening, and of course still its the same jumbled mess every year.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep Christmas lights from getting all tangled up while in storage?

I keep the boxes that the lights came in and I "fold" them up just like how they were new and I rubberband them. I never have a problem with them. If you no longer have the original boxes maybe you can buy the small food storage containers to use for this purpose.

As for my decorating.... I am finally done! Thank heavens! What a mess it is to drag all of that stuff out! The kids are really happy though. We pretty much lit up the whole house and the front lawn. It's not overbearing like you have probably seen some people do, it's just right I think.

We trimmed all around the roof lines with lights and also the support columns as well. We have a big picture window in the front of the house and we put garland and lights around it with a big red bow in the middle.

We have light-up candy canes lining the driveway and we have sixteen little light-up Santa's edging the lawn. On the porch we have out patio table and we decorated it as well. We put fake snow on it and then trimmed around the edge of it with lights and garland. In the middle of it we put our big blow-up Rudolph.

We got everthing decked out inside as well. The tree and all, it's all done!

Everything looks really good. I will hate trying to pack it all away though!

I am glad to hear that you have gotten your Christmas decorating done. This is a task that I have yet to complete and its one that I honestly dread. It is alot of work dragging it all out, putting it into place and then of course for just a short time you get to enjoy it then it is time to pack it all away once again.

Sometimes I wish the kids were much older and didnt have to go through so much every year.
