Smile Bold Fabrics to Decorate a Wall

In order to splash texture, color and add a freshness to a blank wall, framed fabric is the way to go.

Blocks of bold color can freshen up a tired bathroom, back hallway or, if your fabric is truly textural art, why not give it a place of distinction over the fireplace?

Most everyone has some interesting fabric hidden away, but if not, go to the fabric store, or keep your eyes open for an unusual design in scarves, an old jacket or vintage linens.

What you need:

Fabric

Staple gun

Staples

Scissors

Chalk

Wood glue

Frame stretchers (available at art stores)

Ribbon or hangers to attach to the back

What you do:

1. Add a dot of wood glue on the ends of your frame stretcher sides.

2. Slide sides together, forming a square or rectangle, let dry.

3. Place frame on fabric design.

4. Chalk an outline 1 inch larger than the frame.

5. Cut out fabric sections on the chalked lines.

6. With staple gun, begin stapling in the center of one side, place three staples to set fabric.

7. Move to the opposite side and do the same.

8. Do the same thing on the remaining two sides.

9. Move from the center out toward the corners, firmly pulling the fabric taut, then stapling.

10. At the corners, make a neat fold and staple corners securely.

11. Decide which direction to hang your fabric, and attach hanger in the center of the back.

Note: To use embroidery hoops as the frames, draw a circle on the fabric 2 inches larger than the hoop. After fabric is snugly set in the hoop, cut off the excess.
