Default A different way to help cool your home.

This is an innovative to help keep your home cooler and helps your air conditioner not work as hard. Plus it is something that everyone can afford to do.

Our latest Frugal $ense winning tip helps out families who are trying to keep cool during the summer months but are faced with the daunting task of keeping the hot sun from creeping through windows and heating up your home.

Winner Jacque Zirtzman, of Manchester, Iowa, suggests visiting a camping equipment store and picking up a $2 solar camping blanket. Taping the blanket to windows that receive extensive exposure to the sun can reduce your cooling bills. This uber-saver on auto-pilot has a treasure trove of money saving ideas. She shared just a few of them with Bankrate. Mostly, Zirtzman says, "Think outside the box" when coming up with a way to cut costs.

Luckily, my picture window faces a continually shady side of our house or I sure would try this idea on it.

That is a great idea and sure is nothing I ever thought of. As I posted before, I have a ton of shade trees surrounding my house and they keep it pretty cool here. But my mom's house gets the blazing sun all day long and this would be a great idea for her to try. She has been trying to come up with some ideas for helping to cool her home. Her A/C runs constantly in the summer to no avail. It is still always hot. Hopefully this can give her some relief from the heat and lower her utility bill.

Yes, it just might help her keep her home cooler, and the price is certainly right for this material. Plus, it this material makes the inside of her home just a tad bit darker, it will actually seem a little cooler than it is.

If she decides to use this material, please have her post the benefits of using it here. We will be anxiously awaiting her answer.
