Should You Rent Out Your Home or Sell It?

FOUR MONTHS AGO, Darleen Burbridge, a 41-year-old hotel office manager from Staten Island, N.Y., was laid off. Now, after fruitlessly pounding the pavement for the past few months, she's decided to relocate to Florida. She figures that Florida offers better job opportunities in the hotel industry, a more affordable standard of living and — let's face it — better weather.
But one question remains: Should she sell her two-family suburban home or rent it out

Great article very informative. I think I would sell Personally #1 I know i'm not cut out to be a landlord and #2 be a long distance landlord would drive me crazy I would have to hire a company to oversee the renter. I just wouldn't trust being so far away..

If you arent planning on coming back to the house in question, I wouldnt recommend renting it out as you may come back to some nasty problems with the house itself.

If you arent planning to return, by all means sell it.

The Florida idea may be a good one as far as the jobs in the Hotel line is concerned, but in some cities in Florida the cost of living has skyrocketed.
