Default Renters Squeezed by Landlords

Some landlords are using online "tools" to squeeze renters with high fees, raise rents, and reject applicants, not all of which may be legal........you can fight back.

Property owners are taking advantage of the rising tide of cheap, online personal data to reject more applicants, raise rents based on credit scores and pepper renters with fees — not all of which may be legal. Find out about your rights and how you can fight back.

It's hard enough to find a home that you want to live in, without the landlord being able to raise the rent on a daily basis, tack on fee after fee, and reject you out of hand. The internet is a wonderful thing, but in this case it's being used to discriminate and that's not good at all.

Regardless of ones credit report, families need somewhere to live. And just because they have a low credit score doesnt mean they wont pay the rent.

At this rate, we are going to end up with more and more homeless people that will depend on the Salvation Army etc. for someplace to eat and sleep, and even those places are having a hard time of it these days because donations are down.

This is unfair. I had to cosign an application for an apartment for my daughter. She was recieving state aid and this was a low income housing
facility. Let me tell you I was not happy about it but she needed a place to
live.
She had no credit to speak of and they had to have someone who did. I think this is a load of crap. Just my opinion.
