Default Housing mess makes buy vs. rent choice harder

When it comes to the home, the standard advice is simple: Over a lifetime, it’s better to own than to rent. As a homeowner, you build equity until you own the property free and clear. Renters are never free of monthly payments

I would think that considering ones personal future would be the bottom line in this situation. When renting, most people pay as much if not more than they would pay in a housepayment each month.

Default rent

I have a neighbor who rents a house for a hundred dollars more a month than I pay for my mortgage. The house is comparable to my own but I just don't see paying that much to rent a home.

I have only paid rent for the first three months of my marriage many, many moons ago. I can’t see giving someone else money for something that I can own myself, not to mention we have increased the value way above what we have paid for it. It is definitely a great investment.
