Default Differences between coops and condos.

If you own a condo you have ownership of the unit in a multiple unit building. For a coop however you do not own a particular unit you have a share in the building. The size of the unit of course then depends on how many share you have purchased.
I don't think that I like either option myself. I want a piece of land with a building on it that is all my own. I know that many people have condos and really enjoy them.
I think however that whether I owned it or not it would feel to much like renting to me. You have all those people in the same building. Neighbors are neighbors either way I guess.

Neither of these appeal to me either. I don't like having people living that close, and want the same as you........a piece of land with my house on it.

I know it's convenient to have someone who takes care of the building's maintenance and someone to maintain whatever grounds there may be around the building, but I'd rather take on those issues myself in order to have my privacy and the feeling that what I'm tending to is mine.

How about owning a "villa"? These are single family homes that offer the best of both worlds. Privacy, no neighbors sharing a wall, and for a fee the yard is mowed, the snow is shoveled (there's that word again.. SNOW... BOOOOOO!!!!!!), and the landscaping kept up.

And not to mention your choice of having pets or not...you can buy a place for thousands, and still have someone tell you , you cant have pets, or kids, or smoke!

The villa's sound pretty good to me. I am not much for shoveling snow! LOL. I agree with the others though, I don't think I could handle either a co-op or a condo. To each their own! I like having space and privacy and you don't get either if you live in those.
