Driveway
The driveway is the first thing that visitors see when they come to your home. For this reason, it is very important that the driveway is in good shape and pleasing to the eye. Nobody wants to park on a driveway full of potholes, and nobody wants to walk on a driveway overgrown with weeds. Driveways require constant maintenance and upkeep or they may have to be replaced. For this reason, it is extremely important to make sure that the driveway of a new home is up to par before you buy.
Many people are unaware of the expense associated with installing, repairing or replacing a driveway. The local government takes care of repaving roads every couple of years in order to prevent cracks and holes, but driveway owners need to take care of this maintenance by themselves. Before you purchase a house, especially if you want to put it right back on the market, it is important to check the quality of the driveway.
There are several materials used in driveways. These materials range in price and quality. More expensive materials include cobblestone and brick driveways and driveways made from stamped concrete or asphalt which come in various colors and designs. These materials are expensive because they are not only aesthetically pleasing but they last—sometimes up to fifty years! Cheaper driveway materials include stone, gravel and recycled gravel. While stone is more pleasing to the eye than other cheap driveway materials it can be expensive to maintain as stones shift and weeds grow between them. Gravel is the cheapest method and is also good because it’s easy to pave over if you should decide to upgrade your driveway.
Aside from the physical driveway, you should look at the landscaping around the driveway. Make sure there is a convenient walkway from the driveway to the house. Plants and flowers are nice too. If you have done your research and find that the driveway is up to par it can greatly increase the value of the house when you decide to resell it.
