Whether you are looking to buy a new home at a bargain price that you can resell at a profit or a new home for yourself, the backyard is an important factor in determining whether or not a property is a worthwhile investment.  A nice backyard with a garden not only increases the value of your home but also decreases your stress level.

A great way to profit on a house is to buy a house with an overgrown backyard and then spend a week or so cleaning it up.  You can plant flowers, herbs and trees with paths between them.  You can put in a table with an umbrella and some chairs.  Paint the fences; trim back the bushes.  Make the place feel like a retreat from the hardships of work and life and you will increase the property value a surprising amount.

If you want to do the work yourself be sure to do some research to choose plants that will survive in the environment.  Additionally, be sure that you have de-weeded the property and that there are no plants that will take over the whole yard and ruin all of your hard work.

You can also hire a landscaper to beautify your back yard.  A landscaper has the experience and expertise to make your backyard the most beautiful yard on the block, if not in the whole community!  Though hiring a landscaper is a bit more expensive than the do-it-yourself method the results are completely worth the price.

If you don’t want to deal with the hassle of doing any work in the backyard then you need to make sure that the backyard in the house you are buying is already serene and beautiful.  When you resell the house you want to profit as much as possible and a rundown backyard will lessen the property value significantly.

Though the backyard is not a physical part of the house you are buying, it is still a significant factor that should be taken into account when purchasing a home.
